History Happened Here Tour

Through a New Jersey Council for the Humanities Incubation Grant initiated by Stephanie Daniels, Nirupa Umapathy and James Kirkland, HPHA 2023 board members, we received funding to continue our Community History Project with the goal of further researching how to make obscured Paulus Hook history more visible and accessible to the community at large.

The Project Team is John Gomez, Humanities Scholar and founder of the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy, John Beekman, Archivist/Historian, Humanities Scholar and Director of the NJ Room at the Jersey City Public Library, Gabriela Motintan, Project Manager.

Our partners include the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy and the Museum of Jersey City History. Paulus Hook - History Happened Here Children's Tour & History Hunt is sponsored in part by the Moorefield Group.

On May 18, 2024, we launch a pilot for what could turn into an annual event, a Paulus Hook children's history tour - guided by John Gomez, with a hunt for architectural and other mostly unidentifiable historic objects.

Due to the excellent response to the event, the Tour application is now closed! If you would like to be informed of upcoming children's history tours, please use the FORM to sign up.

This project was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
